Dr Selwyn Maister, QSM, Christchurch.
For services to hockey. Dr Selwyn Maister was a New Zealand hockey national selector and sports administrator for 30 years. He has played, coached and been in governance roles at club, provincial and national level in hockey. He played hockey for Canterbury and New Zealand from 1965 to 1980, including three Olympic Games. He was the New Zealand Captain in 1973 and 1974. After he retired as a player, he coached a number of high-profile teams for more than 20 years, including being Assistant Coach of the New Zealand Women’s Black Sticks at the Sydney Olympics in 2000. He was on the inaugural board of Hockey New Zealand. He is President of the New Zealand Olympians Association, and he is on the board of Paralympics New Zealand. He was Chief Executive Officer of the Canterbury West Coast Sports Trust from 2000 to 2007. Dr Maister received the SPARC Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
