Barry Maister, ONZM, Picton.
For services to sport. Mr Barry Maister was General Secretary of the New Zealand Olympic Committee for 10 years, retiring in 2010 to take on a position on the International Olympic Committee. He oversaw five Olympic Games and three Commonwealth Games. He was a driving force behind the opening of the Olympic Museum in Wellington 2008. He was part of the gold medal-winning hockey team in the 1976 Olympics. He coached youth and secondary schools hockey teams for 28 years. Mr Maister has strongly supported the Youth Olympic Games and has been seen as an important link between athletes and sporting administration.
