Gillian Heald
Gillian Heald, of Christchurch, received the Insignia of a Member of The New Zealand Order of Merit for services to education. Ms Heald has been involved in education for more than 35 years. She was a secondary and tertiary school mathematics teacher. She was a founding director of the secondary education institution, Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti, and chair of the Aurora College Establishment Board. She was the Principal of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and Head of Mathematics Education at the Christchurch College of Education. She is a mentor for new principals with the First Principals Programme. Ms Heald has advised the Ministry of Education as a member of the Principals’ Lead Group, and the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as a member of the principals’ forum on the implementation of NCEA. Ms Heald has been a member of the Third International Mathematics and Science Survey Advisory Committee, the New Zealand Mathematical Olympiad Executive Committee, and was the President of the Canterbury Mathematics Association.
