Simon Spencer-Bower
Simon Spencer-Bower, of Wanaka, received The Queen's Service Medal for services to aviation. Mr Spencer-Bower has been involved with aviation and in particular aviation safety in the Canterbury and Southern Lakes area for more than 30 years. He established a helicopter company and pilot training company which has trained more than 500 New Zealand and international pilots. He is recognised as the world’s most experienced Robinson R22 helicopter pilot, has the highest flying time and has flown without accident. He has regularly participated in the Warbirds Over Wanaka Air Show since it’s inception. Mr Spencer-Bower has participated in a number of aerial searches for missing people and aircraft.
