Te Pura o Te Rangi Parata
Te Pura o Te Rangi Parata, of Lyttelton, received The Queen's Service Medal for services to Māori and the community. Mr Parata worked for the Department of Māori Affairs and the Māori Land Court until 1989. He was a member of the Ngāi Tahu Māori Trust Board Iwi Transition Agency and worked for Te Puni Kokori in Christchurch, Dunedin, Hokitika, and Invercargill until 2007. He was a trustee of Avonside Girls High School, the Ngai Tahu Economic Development committee, the South Pacific Arts Festival, chaired the Waitaha Festival Committee, and the Wairaki Polynesian Festival. Mr Parata has also been a kapa haka performer and supporter.
