Marion Barnes, of Te Aroha
Marion Barnes received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the community. Mrs Barnes has been serving the Te Aroha community in a variety of capacities for the past 30 years. She has been a Brownie and Guide Leader, and was a District Commissioner from 1978 to 2002. In a volunteer capacity she has provided support services to the elderly residents of the community by driving them to appointments. For the past 13 years she has been involved in a wide range of community organisations including Te Aroha District Primary and High School Reunion Committees, Victim Support, Jaycees Reunions, the Te Aroha Family Budget Service, the Te Aroha Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Matamata-Piako District Civil Defence Welfare Committee. Mrs Barnes has been involved in a variety of charitable works including knitting clothes for premature babies at Waikato Hospital, and a similar project for African children.
