Dr Melani Anae
Misataueveve Dr Melani Anae, of Auckland, received the Insignia of a Companion of the Queen's Service Order, for services to the Pacific Islands community, on September 24. She has been instrumental in the development of the Centre for Pacific Studies at the University of Auckland into a collaborative hub for studying Pacific culture, history, art, language, performing arts, and literature and the development of the Fale Pasifika complex. She has written a number of books including, The First Fifty years: A Short History of the PIC in Auckland and New Zealand Based Research on the Pacific Islands, and has published research in a number of journals. Dr Anae is an advisor to the Community and Pacific Health Advisory Committee of the Auckland District Health Board, a member of the Pacific Advisory Board/Expert Pacific Panel of the Health Research Council, and a member of the Polynesian Society Council
