For services to the community. Mrs and Mr Hanna, co-founded the Arohanui Christian Trust in 1983, completely renovating their home to accommodate young men as an alternative to prison. The Trust now runs several foster care houses in Auckland. They have worked to provide a supportive environment for children for 43 years, beginning in Masterton, then moving to Auckland in 1971. Mr and Mrs Hanna work to help young people transition into independence. The foster homes often take in teenage parents and their babies, helping them to become effective parents and role models. Hundreds of young people have passed through the foster homes and have gained skills through the caring, structured environment that they provide. Mrs Hanna is also a qualified counsellor. Mr Hanna is a Justice of the Peace.
