Daniel Devadhar
Dr Daniel Devadhar, of Wellington, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to medicine and the community. Dr Devadhar has been a surgeon and a general practitioner in New Zealand for more than 40 years. He established the surgical operation for rectal prolapse, which provides a permanent solution for this condition, eliminating the need for repetitive surgery. He has been a key note speaker at international surgical conferences. He has worked at a number of community hospitals and since his retirement has done volunteer work in his community. He was a voluntary health and legal advocate for ACC clients, served on the Taranaki District Health Board and was the consulting doctor for the Māori community at the Ruanui Health Centre in Hawera. Dr Devadhar was a community representative on the Work and Income New Zealand Review Tribunal and was involved with Grey Power in South Taranaki for more than 10 years.
