Andrew Davidson, Christchurch, ONZM
For services to the timber industry. Mr Davidson is Managing Director of McAlpines Timber and has been involved in the industry for 45 years. The company is the largest New Zealand-owned private exporter of processed timber, employing 350 people. He has been an industry leader in adopting new technology and processes in the treatment of timber, and pioneering the export of ‘value added’ timber products. In 1987 he helped design the ‘WOODmark’ scheme, which has ensured quality control across New Zealand timber plants. He has been on the Board of the New Zealand Timber Industry Federation and the New Zealand Timber Preservation Council since 1983, and has been a Chairperson of the Council since 2003.
