Alec McLean
Alec McLean, of Wellington, received the Insignia of a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for public services. Mr McLean, pictured after the ceremony with the Governor-General, Sir Anand Satyanand, Lady Susan Satyanand and friends and family, served as Private Secretary to Ministers of the Crown and the Prime Minister from the 1970s to 2008. He served as Private Secretary to many Ministers including the Peter Wilkinson, Minister of Customs; Hugh Templeton, Minister of Customs; Sir Robert Muldoon, Prime Minister; Venn Young, Minister of Social Welfare; Dame Ann Hercus, Minister of Social Welfare, Sir Roger Douglas, Minister of Finance; Michael Cullen, Minister of Social Welfare; Helen Clark, Minister of Health, Deputy Prime Minister, and Prime Minister; Sir Don McKinnon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Tony Ryall, Minister of Justice. Mr McLean is now the Deputy Official Secretary at Government House.
