George Fairbairn
George Fairbairn, of Wellington, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the community. Mr Fairbairn has been involved in the Wellington community in a variety of capacities for more than 50 years. He was the Director of Public Affairs of the Automobile Association for 45 years until his retirement in 2005. He was International Commissioner of Scouting New Zealand for more than 25 years and has been involved with the organisation for 50 years. He is the Secretary of the Scout Youth Foundation was awarded the Bronze Wolf by the world Scouting organisation in 1988, and the Silver Tui in 1993. He has been a member of the Rotary Club of Wellington since 1983. He has been a mentor with the club’s Skilled Migrant Programme, and has served on many committees. Mr Fairbairn has served on the John Ilott Trust for many years.
