Dr John Cullen, of Hauraki
Dr John Cullen received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to medicine. Dr Cullen has influenced the development of orthopaedic services in Auckland and nationally for 40 years. He was a Senior Lecturer and subsequently an Associate Professor at the University of Auckland Medical School from 1972 to 1978. He was an examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons for five years 1988 and from 1997 to 2003 was a member of the New Zealand Medical Association Disciplinary Tribunal. In 1993 he established an acute and elective orthopaedic service for the Waitemata District Health Board at North Shore and Waitakere Hospitals. From 2003 to 2010 he was Chairperson of the Southern Cross Hospitals National Clinical Medical Committee. Dr Cullen is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of both London and Edinburgh. He is currently Head of the Division of Surgery and Ambulatory Services for the Waitemata District Health Board and has responsibility for establishing an innovative free-standing elective surgical unit at North Shore Hospital.
