David Sabiston
Dr David Sabiston, of Napier, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to ophthalmology and the community. Dr Sabiston has been an ophthalmologist in the Hawke’s Bay for more than 45 years. He was a member of the New Zealand Ophthalmological Society of Gisborne, the New Zealand Society for the Prevention of Blindness, and was instrumental in the establishment of the New Zealand Contact Lens Society (now the Cornea and Contact Lens Society of New Zealand), of which he was President. He was also Chairman of the Napier Community Health Committee and was ophthalmologist at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Dr Sabiston wrote The History of the New Zealand Contact Lens Society, to celebrate the society’s 50th anniversary. He is also Patron of the Bluff Hill Bowling Club, was actively involved with the Napier Park Racing Club and Hawke’s Bay Racing Incorporated.
