Mr Richard Griffin, of Mapua, CNZM for services to broadcasting and the media industry
As Chair of the Board of Radio New Zealand, Richard Griffin oversaw RNZ’s transformation into an efficient and effective multimedia company with greater reach and relevancy to New Zealand society. During his tenure, RNZ achieved a significant leap in web traffic. He oversaw development of The Wireless, RNZ’s online service for youth, and was instrumental in increasing RNZ’s baseline Crown funding. A past Radio New Zealand Political Editor and a Life Member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery, Mr Griffin was Chief Press Secretary and Media Advisor to Prime Minister Jim Bolger. He was Manager of Policy Development, Government Relations and Communications for Television New Zealand and represented TVNZ on the New Zealand Television Broadcasters Council. Mr Griffin was a Director of the public relations consultancy Fraser Griffin Wood Ltd.
