Mr Mustafa Derbashi, MNZM, of Auckland, for services to migrant and refugee communities
Mustafa Derbashi has helped Middle Eastern and Muslim migrants and refugees integrate into New Zealand life.
He has organised events and programmes for children, interpreted for refugees engaging with various agencies, and worked with Syrian men in Dunedin through his ‘Men Integration Project’.
He has been an unpaid teacher aide in school ESOL programmes and voluntarily coached Kiwi Kids football.
He has emceed at the New Zealand Eid Day, Auckland’s biggest Muslim celebration. He interpreted for various events following the 2019 Christchurch mosque attacks.
Mr Derbashi has sat on the Executive Committee of the Brockville Amenity and Community Improvement Society and the Brockville Primary School Board of Trustees.
