Various events will mark the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. New Zealand representatives will attend the Queen’s funeral in London. A New Zealand State Memorial Service will be held in Wellington.

State Memorial Service
New Zealand will mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II with a State Memorial Service and one-off public holiday on Monday 26 September. For further information, click here.
National minute of silence
A national minute of silence will occur at 2pm on Monday 26 September. It offers a way for people, wherever they might be in Aotearoa New Zealand, to collectively pause and acknowledge the passing of the Queen and her extraordinary 70 years of service.
Gun salutes
A gun salute was fired from the Te Papa Promenade in Wellington at 6pm on Friday 9 September 2022, by personnel from the 16th Field Regiment, Royal New Zealand Artillery, based at Linton Military Camp.
The Death Gun Salute of 96 rounds was fired at 10 second intervals. The salute was 16 minutes in duration and live streamed on the NZDF Facebook page.
Proclamation of Accession ceremony
The Proclamation of Accession ceremony was held on the steps of Parliament at 12.30PM on Sunday 11 September. The immediate forecourt was available to invited guests, and members of the public were welcome to gather on the grounds. A recording of the ceremony can be viewed on the Governor-General's blog.
The House of Representatives
There was a sitting of the House at 2pm on Tuesday 13 September where a message from the Governor-General was read by Mr Speaker, officially informing them of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Members then had the opportunity to pay tributes to He Majesty. The House then adjourned until Tuesday 20 September.
