Queen approves honours for the Governor-General Designate

Prime Minister John Key today announced that the Queen has approved the appointment of Dame Patsy Reddy, Governor-General Designate, as an Additional Dame Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit and as an Additional Companion of the Queen’s Service Order.

“These appointments are an important formal step in the process of Dame Patsy’s becoming the next Governor-General.”

When she takes office, Dame Patsy will also become Chancellor of the New Zealand Order of Merit, and Principal Companion of the Queen’s Service Order. 

Dame Patsy will be sworn in as Governor-General on 28 September 2016.
