Ms Janet Lilo, of Auckland, MNZM for services to the arts
Ms Janet Lilo (Te Rarawa) is an artist working across digital video, photography, drawing, sculpture and installation. Her work has been shown in Asia, Europe, the United States and across the Pacific. She chaired the Board of Tautai Pacific Arts Trust and has advocated tirelessly for Pacific and rainbow arts and communities. She is a founding director of interdisciplinary arts organisation Whau the People, leading All Goods community gallery in Avondale. She has lectured at Auckland University of Technology and the Elam School of Fine Arts. Ms Lilo was awarded the Karangahape Road public art commission in 2017, resulting in her iconic banana light poles.
