Mrs Pania Houkamau-Ngaheu, of Porirua, KSM for services to the community
Mrs Pania Houkamau-Ngaheu (Ngāti Porou, Tūhoe) is Māreikura of Horouta ki Poneke Marae, where she led a two-year renovation: repairing the meeting house, installing a commercial kitchen, and starting a medicinal garden. She works with Police recruits, mentors senior Police officers and supports Māori Wardens. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she helped Wellington’s homeless population have somewhere safe to stay, and following Cyclone Gabrielle, her team of volunteers collected and freighted donations to affected people on the East Coast. Mrs Houkamau-Ngaheu has served as Chair of the Porirua Vikings Rugby League Club.
