Mr John Sparling, of Auckland, MNZM for services to cricket
Mr John Sparling played 11 Test cricket matches, was Captain of the Auckland cricket team for nine seasons, and has served the Auckland Cricket Association as Selector, President, Life Member and Patron. He has given his name to the annual junior interclub tournament, and was named Auckland University Cricket Club’s Player of the Century. He is an Honorary Member of New Zealand Cricket, a Life Member of the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association, The Cricket Society in Auckland, the Auckland Grammar School Old Boys’ Association, and the Eden Park Trust Board. Mr Sparling was a Foundation Member of the Carbine Club of New Zealand, which raises funds to support athletes with disabilities.
