Dr Teuila Percival, of Mt Albert
Dr Teuila Percival received Insignia of a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the Pacific Islands community. Dr Percival is a community paediatrician and has worked for KIDZ First in South Auckland, helping to develop 'Kids n Action', a programme dedicated to supporting obese Pasifika children to lose weight. She helped to establish the first School Health Centre at Otahuhu College and co-founded South Seas Healthcare, which she also led as the Director of Child Health, and was Chair of the Board. She was also involved in the establishment of TaPasefika, the first Pasifika Primary Health Care Organisation in New Zealand. Since 1996 she has been a member, Vice-President and President of the Pasifika Medical Association. Dr Percival led and worked alongside the paediatric team for three weeks during the 2009 tsunami in Samoa, and is currently the Director of the Pacific Health Unit at the University of Auckland.
