Hugh Spencer
Dr Hugh Spencer, of Hamilton, received the Insignia of an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to medicine, in particular anaesthesia. Dr Spencer is an Australasian authority on regional anaesthesia and was a consultant anaesthetist at Waikato Hospital for 27 years until 2004. He served on a number of committees, including the Investigation into Anaesthetic Services Committee at Rotorua Hospital and the Appointments Committee for the Director of Anaesthesia for the Canterbury District Health Board. He was a tutor at the South Pacific Course in Anaesthesia in Fiji and established an assistance programme for the University of Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. Dr Spencer was appointed Consultant Emeritus to the Waikato District Health Board in 2005.
