E nga rau rangatira ma, E kui mā, e koro mā, e Huihui mai nei I tenei ra, tēnei aku mihi nui ki a koutou. Kia ora tātou katoa.
I would like to begin by acknowledging Tim Rookes, President of the Christchurch Club, for the warm welcome here today.
I am very pleased to be able to continue the long-standing tradition of Royal and vice-regal support for your Club, with a long and influential history in Christchurch.
After what I understand were many challenging years following the earthquakes in 2010 and 2011, it is truly uplifting to see once again the revamped splendour of this historic building today – now designed to serve the modern needs of Club members and their families.
It is fitting that you chose to plant a beautiful tree to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla, in tribute to His Majesty’s lifelong commitment to environmental conservation and his deep appreciation for nature.
This tree, symbolising growth, unity and a strong connection to the land and its people, will serve as a living legacy of the coronation, as well as the unique and enduring relationship between the monarchy and New Zealand.
My very warmest thanks once again for your hospitality and the significant contributions you have made, and continue to make, to this vibrant city. May this beautiful tree flourish and thrive alongside your Club and its members.
Kia ora e huihui mai I tātou katoa.
