Dr Francis Agnew, of Northcote
Dr Francis Agnew received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the Pacific Islands community. Dr Agnew is New Zealand's first qualified New Zealand-born Pasifika drug and alcohol psychiatrist and is one of only two such specialists working in New Zealand. He was the Consultant Psychiatrist for the first Dual Diagnosis Service in Auckland and as Service Clinical Director, was involved in the re-integration of mental health services in Auckland. He provides mental health clinics in the Cook Islands, and is part of the mental health leadership team that travelled to American Samoa and Samoa to establish community development programmes. In 2008 the Pasifika Medical Association honoured him for his contribution to mental health services in New Zealand and the Pacific. Dr Agnew is the Service Clinical Director and Consultant Psychiatrist for Pacific Mental Health and Addiction Services at the Waitemata District Health Board.
