Dr Roderick Bieleski, of Stanley Point
Dr Roderick Bieleski received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to horticultural science. A Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand, Dr Bieleski has been involved with horticulture, plant physiology and the horticultural industry for more than 40 years. His research has included work on the phenomenon of sugar transport and phosphorus nutrition in plants, and pioneering work on the occurrence, synthesis, metabolism, and movement around the plant of sugars. He is also a trustee of the New Zealand Camellia Society and Trees for Survival. Dr Bieleski has received a number of awards, including the Research Medal of the New Zealand Society of Scientists in 1966, and the Royal Society of New Zealand’s Hector Medal in 1984.
