“As Governor-General and Her Majesty’s representative in New Zealand, I look forward to welcoming the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall in 2012,” Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae said.
“It will be great to have the Queen’s heir, the Prince of Wales, engaging with New Zealanders during his visit here, on Her Majesty’s behalf. The Prince has visited our shores on a number of occasions and has always shown a keen interest in our nation’s well-being. This visit is an opportunity for Prince Charles to catch up on what has happened in the years since his 2005 visit, and especially those events in the past year.”
The Prince of Wales has visited New Zealand six times. It will be the Duchess of Cornwall’s first visit.
Queen Elizabeth II has been New Zealand’s Queen and Head of State since 6 February 1952.
More information on the visit, and Diamond Jubilee celebrations, will be available in due course.
