The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, will visit Christchurch on Monday 13 May 2013 to support the on-going recovery of the city, hosting a meeting of community groups and opening new school facilities.
Sir Jerry Mateparae will host a roundtable and networking meeting with a variety of representatives from more than 15 community groups, organisations and businesses committed to improving Christchurch with a range of initiatives. It is an opportunity for the Governor-General to learn of their work and for the groups to share information about their activities.

Following this meeting, the Governor-General will open the new Chapel Auditorium and Gymnasium complex at St Margaret’s College in Merivale. Eighty percent of the school was damaged by the series of earthquakes since September 2010.
