The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, will make a three day visit to Christchurch and Canterbury this week (Wednesday 21 August to Friday 23 August).
Tomorrow (Wednesday 21 August), Sir Jerry Mateparae will attend a briefing from Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority officials and visit Airways New Zealand, the Stronger Christchurch Infrastructure Rebuild Team and Connetics Ltd , to learn of their on-going response to the recovery of Canterbury following the 2010 and 2011 earthquakes.
On Thursday (22 August) morning, the Governor-General will visit Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti, a special character secondary school on the Dovedale Campus of the University of Canterbury, which is a leader in digital innovation and technology entrepreneurship. At that time, Lady Janine Mateparae will visit the Head Office of GirlGuiding New Zealand, which is one of her patronage organisations.
Later on Thursday (22 August) the Governor-General and Lady Janine Mateparae, will attend a ceremony at the Christchurch Central Police Station where Sir Jerry Mateparae will present the PDSA Gold Medal to Senior Constable Bruce Lamb, the handler of the police dog Gage, killed by an armed assailant in 2010. The PDSA, Britain’s largest veterinary charity, awards the Gold Medal for acts of animal bravery. On Thursday evening, the Governor-General will attend the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce Champion Canterbury Business Awards finalist function.
On Friday (23 August), the Governor-General will visit Lincoln University. These visits, in association with Environment Canterbury, will focus on innovation in agriculture and include farm site visits.
