Renowned novelist, poet and academic Emeritus Professor Albert Wendt, Māori leader Dame Ngāneko Minhinnick, businessman and philanthropist Sir Owen Glenn, former All Black, Bryan Williams and actor Rāwiri Paratene, are among 40 people whose achievements will be celebrated at investiture ceremonies at Government House in Auckland this week.
The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, and Lady Janine Mateparae, will host three ceremonies at Government House Auckland on Wednesday 4 September (10am and 2.30pm) and Thursday 5 September (10am).
Emeritus Professor Wendt will be invested with New Zealand’s highest honour, the Order of New Zealand, while Sir Owen will be made a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to philanthropy. Dame Ngāneko will be made a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Māori and conservation while Mr Williams will be made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to rugby and Mr Paratene will receive the ONZM for services to film, television and theatre.
