Local schools, vineyards and aquaculture initiatives will feature during the upcoming visit of the Governor-General, Lt Gen Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae to Marlborough.
The visit will commence with a welcome onto Waikawa Marae in Picton on Tuesday 23 September. Sir Jerry and Lady Janine Mateparae will visit Queen Charlotte College to talk to students involved in hospitality and aquaculture programmes before travelling on to Blenheim.
In the afternoon Sir Jerry will visit Marlborough Girls College to see their international educational initiatives, and will later attend an aviation business cluster meeting. Sir Jerry and Lady Janine will then attend a presentation and reception at the Marlborough Research Centre.
On Wednesday 24 September Sir Jerry and Lady Janine will visit Seddon School and Yealands Estate in the morning. In the afternoon Sir Jerry will visit Cuddon Limited and Lady Janine will visit Alzheimer’s Society Marlborough where there will be a demonstration by Marlborough Floral Arts Group. In the evening, Sir Jerry and Lady Janine will officially open a new scout campsite at Waihopai.
On Thursday 25 September Sir Jerry and Lady Janine will visit the Wairau Bar archaeological site before returning to Blenheim for a meeting of the Marlborough Youth Council at the Council Chambers. They will then leave Blenheim and travel to Outward Bound Anakiwa, and then on to Mistletoe Bay Eco Village.
On Friday 26 September Sir Jerry will visit a mussel farm in Kenepuru Sound before visiting Sanford’s processing plant in Havelock.
