The Governor-General of New Zealand, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae, and Lady Janine Mateparae, will undertake a three-day visit to the Whanganui district next week.
Sir Jerry and Lady Janine Mateparae both have strong connections to the district. The Governor-General attended Castlecliff School, Rutherford Intermediate and Wanganui High School, while Lady Janine attended Brunswick School and Wanganui Girls’ College.
The visit will begin on Tuesday 24 September with a pōwhiri and civic welcome at Pūtiki Marae before meeting the Wanganui Youth Committee and attending the Wanganui Intermediate School’s performance of Beauty and the Beast. On Wednesday 25 September, they will visit Castlecliff School and host a reception for women leaders at the Whanganui Regional Museum. On Thursday 26 September, Sir Jerry and Lady Janine Mateparae will visit Wanganui High School before the Governor-General is formally welcomed on to RNZAF Air Base Ohakea as Commander-in-Chief.
The Governor-General and Lady Janine will also visit a number of businesses and organisations in the city including Pacific Helmets, Good Design Matters, Chronicle Glass and Awa City Computer Clubhouse.
