Investiture ceremonies in Christchurch

Boxer Kevin Barry is one of 33 people from the South Island to be invested with New Zealand honours at investiture ceremonies in Christchurch this week.

Governor-General, Hon Sir Anand Satyanand and Lady Susan Satyanand, will host two investiture ceremonies at The Canterbury Club on Friday 26 March 2010.

The investiture ceremonies are being held in Christchurch as Government House in Wellington closed in 2008 for a major Conservation Project.  These are the third and fourth major investiture ceremonies to be held outside Wellington or Auckland, with investitures being held in Christchurch and Dunedin last year.

Those invested in the morning ceremony were:

 

  • Lorraine Isaacs, Dunedin, QSO for services to television, education and women
  • Kevin Barry, Christchurch, ONZM for services to boxing and the community
  • Patrick Cotter, Christchurch, ONZM for services to medicine
  • Colin Russell, Christchurch, ONZM for services to education
  • Dennis Rich, Christchurch, MNZM for services to the community
  • Jessie Thompson, Christchurch, MNZM for services to the community
  • Monica Burns, Invercargill, QSM for services to netball
  • Murray Compton, Christchurch, QSM for services to business and the community
  • David Drayton, Christchurch, QSM for services to the community
  • Lester Harvey, Mosgiel, QSM for services to the community
  • Richard Hore, Christchurch, QSM for services to music
  • Helen Huddleston, Balclutha, QSM for services to the community
  • John McLellan, Palmerston, QSM for services to marine search and rescue
  • Te Pura Parata, Lyttelton, QSM for services to Māori and the community
  • Simon Spencer-Bower, Wanaka, QSM for services to aviation
  • Dr David Harrowfield, Christchurch, NZAM for services to Antarctic research

 

Those invested in the afternoon ceremony were:

  • Gillian Heald, Christchurch, MNZM for services to education
  • Lynette Miles, Christchurch, MNZM for services to netball administration
  • John Musgrove, Christchurch, MNZM for services to community medicine
  • Bruce Wikitoa, Timaru, MNZM for services to Māori
  • Geoffrey Clements, Christchurch, QSM for services to the television industry
  • Edwin Dick, Christchurch, QSM for services to the community
  • James Fraser, Christchurch, QSM for services to the community*
  • Nancy Geer, Hokitika, QSM for services to the community
  • James Higgins, Christchurch, QSM for services to community health
  • Stephen Logie, Wallacetown, QSM for services to the Ministry of Fisheries
