Government House is expecting a big public turnout to its open days on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
Government House will open to the public on Saturday 9 April and Sunday 10 April (10am-3.30pm last entry). The last open days were held in February 2007 and the House closed for more than two years in October 2008 for a major conservation project. It was reopened by the Governor-General, Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, on 24 March.
Antony Paltridge, Public Affairs Manager at Government House, says there is no parking on site, but limited parking at Wellington College (for a gold coin donation to the school). Members of the public should enter on foot through the Basin Reserve entrance (1 Rugby St)
“Because of the interest in the House since the completion of the conservation project we are urging members of the public to consider taking public transport to Government House on Saturday and Sunday. There are lots of bus routes that go to the Basin Reserve, which is near the entrance to Government House. They include the number 1, 3, 23, 43 and 44.”
