Her Excellency The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy, GNZM, QSO was sworn in as the 21st Governor-General of New Zealand at Parliament in Wellington on Wednesday, 28 September, 2016.
On 10 October, the Governor-General, The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy and Sir David Gascoigne attended the centennial council of the RNZRSA at the Michael Fowler Centre in Wellington.
The Governor-general, Dame Patsy Reddy officially launched the Wellington Commonwealth Walkway at a ceremony outside Government House. Government House is one of the 32 sites included in the walkway which commemorates both HM The Queen's Golden Jubilee and the 150th anniversary of the founding of Wellington.
On 1 October, the Governor-General, The Rt Hon Dame Patsy Reddy visited Whakatu Marae in Nelson, in her first visit outside Wellington since she took on the role.
On 27 July 2016, The Governor-General, Lt Gen The Rt Hon Sir Jerry Mateparae and Lady Janine Mateparae hosted a reception for companies, tradespeople, medical personnel, and public servants who provide services to Their Excellencies or to Government House.
The Governor-General, Sir Jerry Mateparae visited Massey University's College of Creative Arts to announce Matairangi Mahi Toi, a new Artist in Residence programme at Government House. He also unveiled Pakau Taua, the work created by the inaugural Artist in residence, Ross Hemera.
